Animal Science Students Excel
Ashleigh Holloway, a Freshman Animal Science major from Stockbridge, GA was selected as a Dean鈥檚 Scholar. The Dean鈥檚 Scholar鈥檚 scholarship is a $10,000 award. Ashleigh鈥檚 future career plans are to work for the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service.
Michael Coleman, a senior Animal Science major from Raymond MS won the Farmer of the Year Award at the 26th Annual National Black Farmers Association (NBFA) Conference, held in Jackson, MS November 4-5, 2016. Michael has put his education into practice and already has a growing herd of cattle.
Adreuna Smith-Turner, a Junior Animal Science major from Port Gibson, MS, was awarded the 2016 Lucille 鈥淒iva鈥� Davis Educational Scholarship. The $500 scholarship is to be used for educational needs. Adreuna鈥檚 career goal is to become a veterinarian.
Human Animal Bonding Sessions: Equine. The Animal Science Club is hosting regular bonding sessions with the miniature horses weekly, Tuesday/Thursday 2 鈥� 4:15 pm. The bonding sessions serve multiple purposes鈥攄ecreased student fear; increased animal socialization, and thus, increased student skills, techniques and confidence. These sessions are led by the graduate Animal Science students鈥擫ychrissa Harris, Latroya Scott, and Jessica Williams.
Members of the Animal Science Club traveled with animals to visit with Mr. Bobby Alsworth鈥檚 class at Jefferson County High School. This was in conjunction with the Alcorn Chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Animals, majors and future careers were discussed in this interactive event. We appreciate the invitation!
