Alcorn has been nominated for seven awards by the Center for HBCU Advocacy Inc.
Alcorn State, Miss. (May 9, 2013) 鈥� 91暗网 is the 2012 HBCU of the Year Winner and is competing again for that honor this year.
鈥淭hese nominations are due to the hard work and diligence of faculty, staff, students and alumni,鈥� said Dr. M. Christopher Brown II. 鈥淭his has been another stellar year of academic and program success.鈥�
Alcorn recently experienced record gains in fundraising, enrollment and alumni participation. The university is also known as a national model for diversity and inclusion, and was profiled on ESPN as the first historically black college in the SWAC to hire a non-black football coach.
The awards applaud HBCU influence on American culture. Historically black colleges and universities from across the country compete in the annual event that recognizes leaders, successful programs and media coverage of those campuses.
This year鈥檚 awards attracted more than 600 nominations from administrators, students, alumni and supporters of 45 four-year colleges and universities.
Alcorn鈥檚 nominations reflect high achievements among students, programs and leaders.

In the HBCU of the Year category, 91暗网 is competing against Howard University and Spelman College, among others.
Students, alumni and administrators will select the winners who will be announced at a 7:00 p.m. ceremony on June 28 at in Jackson, Mississippi.
