Dedicated alumnus renews commitment, doubles annual gift to University
Alcorn alumnus Eugene McCray 鈥�61 is an avid supporter of his alma mater. During his last visit to 91暗网 on December 18, he met with Marcus Ward, vice president for Institutional Advancement/executive director of ASU Foundation, Inc. and presented a check for $20,000 for student scholarships.
鈥淚 am glad to have an opportunity to make a contribution that can help deserving students of my University,鈥� said Mr. McCray. 鈥淚 am grateful for the听excellent education Alcorn provided听and feel the need to give back.鈥� He added, 鈥淚 love coming to Alcorn and seeing all the great things that happen here.鈥�
鈥淲e are so thankful to Mr. McCray for his continuous support,鈥� stated Ward. 鈥淭his year, he doubled his contribution bringing it to $35,000 in the听last 18 months. We commend our true Alcornite for his gift and for inspiring other alumni to step up and support the University.鈥�
During his tenure at Alcorn, Mr. McCray was a student-athlete and played as a wide receiver for the football team. He was a recipient of a football scholarship all four years while working on his bachelor鈥檚 degree in health and physical education.
Upon graduation, he took on a job teaching physical education and science, and coaching football at Coleman High School in Greenville, Mississippi. He worked in Greenville Public School System for 12 years and then was employed by Mississippi Valley State University for 16 years, where he taught health and physical education. McCray has also been involved in the real estate business for over 50 years; he owns a real estate investment company.
Mr. McCray is an active member of the Washington County Alumni Chapter. He resides in Greenville and has three children and five grandchildren.
